Since opening its classrooms to students in 1967, LSUS has become the regional urban comprehensive university in the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area. Anchored along the picturesque Red River in southeast Shreveport, the beautifully landscaped LSUS campus serves as home to more than 4,500 students.
"We have nearly 40 undergraduate degree programs and a dozen master's degree programs," Chancellor Vincent Marsala said. "Our highly qualified faculty is evidenced in the fact that over 75% hold doctoral degrees in their discipline, and our student-teacher ratio is one of the lowest in the State."
Student access to technology is a top priority. All classrooms have Internet connections - well above the national average of 64 percent - and Moodle, an online course management system, makes course material available to students 24/7. In all, students can sit down in front of nearly 1,000 computers in subject-specific labs, high-traffic areas such as Noel Memorial Library and The Port restaurant, and a campus-wide computer lab with extended hours.
The LSU name and stellar reputation . The Louisiana State University System is a multi-campus, multipurpose system of higher education, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, encompassing all Louisiana, and exerting a major influence on the economic, social, and cultural life of its citizens.
Small class size to maximize individualized instruction. LSUS classes are smaller than most classes at comparable institutions. The typical student/teacher ratio at LSUS is 19/1, lending to individualized instruction and personalized learning. At LSUS, you are not a number, you are a student. Most professors will know you by name and take time to get to know your learning style and special needs.
Outstanding faculty, 80% have terminal degrees. LSUS has one of the best educated faculties in the state. Eighty percent of the faculty has a terminal degree, meaning they have earned the highest degree offered in their field of expertise. At LSUS, you are learning from the most highly trained faculty members.
Nationally ranked NAIA athletic teams. The LSUS Pilots and Lady Pilots compete in the Red River Athletic Conference, affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Pilots compete in baseball, basketball and soccer and the Lady Pilots compete in basketball, soccer and tennis. The Pilots baseball program won their conference tornament last season and a bid to regionals and has a preseason ranking of number 13 in the country for 2011. The Pilots men's and women's basketball programs haves also set team and university records, both attending the national conference last season.
Numerous student organizations, on-campus activities and off campus festivals. LSUS offers over 40 clubs and organizations and encourages you to explore your interests. The University Student Activities Board provides many of the social, entertainment, and cultural activities on campus. The Activities Board sponsors events such as monthly art exhibits, dances, lobby concerts and demonstrations, a Fall Fest, a Spring Fling, speakers, special festivals, and trips.
Computer Labs and Tutorial Assistance. To assist students in academic life, the University offers many computers labs located throughout the University along with several forms of academic tutoring , including math, writing, accounting, foreign language.
Convenient location in the state and in the city. Shreveport is in the heart of the AR-LA-TX, just three hours from Dallas, Texas, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jackson, Mississippi. LSUS is located in the fastest growing section of Shreveport. Students have easy access to shopping, movies, and restaurants. Students without vehicles will find Shreveport to be easily navigated by bus.
Affordable tuition. A quick comparison of comparable institutions will show you that LSUS is very affordable. In addition, LSUS offers various forms of financial aid, including scholarships, on-campus employment, graduate assistantships. Finances should not stop you from achieving your goals of a high quality education.
University Court Apartments (independent living with campus programming and activities). Some of the nation's finest on campus housing is available to LSUS students. The University Court Apartments accommodates over 450 students in luxurious four bedroom and efficiency apartments. Floor plans feature spacious living areas, private bedrooms, and full service kitchens. An eight foot perimeter fence surrounds the community with electronically controlled limited access. Amenities include an outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, sand volleyball court, and a clubhouse with a big screen TV. An academic environment coupled with an array of educational, recreational, and social programming, coordinated by an on-site residence-life staff, enhances the overall college experience for LSUS students.

LSUS is located in a vibrant metropolitan area in northwest Louisiana which provides an exciting mix of cultural events, college and professional sports, outdoor recreation and shopping. With a population of over 300,000 residents and a progressive business and industry community, the metropolitan area provides ample opportunities for LSUS students to complete internships and supplement their income with part-time employment.

The mission of Student Activities is to implement experiential learning and personal development by providing leadership opportunities and training, creating an atmosphere of discovery through educational and entertainment activities, exploring diversity of ideas, cultures and issues, coordinating and creating civic engagement through community service and encouraging campus recycling, environmental awareness and sustainability.
As the centerpiece of the LSUS campus, the University Center facilitates the mission of the University by providing opportunities for students, faculty and staff to participate in a variety of programs that enhance learning and foster an appreciation for college life and campus diversity. It serves as a central hub for student activities at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

The mission of Recreational Sports is to provide a comprehensive intramural program that fosters sportsmanship, collegial competition and an outlet for athletic participation; to create awareness, education, training and activities for personal and group fitness; to provide a holistic approach to physical, mental and spiritual wellness; and to provide an outlet for group and individual outdoor recreation.
